First of all, this Rose was definitely made to be painted. It was handpicked by my mother from her front yard. When she first brought it over to my house, we took several photos before settling on this one. You can see from the picture, the colors are very vibrant and almost glow. It has a nice flow of color going from light on the inside to a dark red on the outside. As a result, the name Vibrant Glowing Petals was chosen for this painting.
The majority of my paintings are usually from photos. This is the actual reference photo of the rose.
First of all, I bring the painting up on my Ipad and use the grid system to transfer it to my canvas panel. I do need to mention that my niece, Kendra Kintz, is a student teacher and assigned her students a Similarity Art Project based on the grid system. She made a video featuring myself applying the grid system to real life through my artwork. (Great job Kendra – you will make a wonderful math teacher! Love you.) Similarities Art Project
I paint from dark to light starting with the shadows of the rose.
